Famous centre of pilgrimage and Christianity, Fatima, more than 80 miles north of Lisbon in west central Portugal, a small town, is one of the most important places in the world of Virgin Mary cult.
Here is celebrated from May to October the Apparitions of 1917 of Our Lady of Fátima to the three shepherd children: Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta.
Each year thousands of pilgrims visit this place every May 13, commemorating the day of the first apparition, and on October 13, the day of the final apparition, thousands of pilgrims will crowd into the great square in front of the basilica.
Pope John Paul II made three visits to Fatima, integrated into visits to Portugal. The first was on 13 May 1982 and was designed mainly to thank Our Lady of the protection which it has received in the attack that he was victim in the previous year to 13 May in the Plaza of San Pedro.
Pope Benedict XVI will visit Portugal for the first time in May 2010 and will preside the religious ceremonies on 13 May.
Though Fatima is one of the more popular destinations of Portugal, the supply of hotel rooms is very low, especially on dates and Christian holidays. Below, you can search for hotel rooms in Fatima and surrounding area, at the best price available for the date you want:
Fátima / Ourém / Alvados / Batalha / Alcanena / Leiria / Tomar / Curvaceiras Grandes / Aljubarrota / Golegã / Marinha Grande / Alcobaça / Ferreira do Zêzere
