Madeira won the fourth place in the election of the Top 5 Islands in Europe, contemplated in the World’s Best Awards’ 09 of the U.S. magazine Travel & Leisure.
Reaching the 4th place, Madeira was surpassed by the Aeolian islands, Italy (1st place), Dalmatian, Croatia (2nd place) and Santorini, Greece (3rd place). Completing the top 5 were the islands of Cyclades, in Greece too.
Madeira has been accumulating awards and nominations in prestigious international journals. This is another recognition of the quality of this destination for holidays , which joins to other appointments, highlighting the recent election of Condé Nast Traveler magazine, who attributed to Madeira the sixth place in the ranking of top ten European islands.
The distinction now achieved is of great prestige, because the Travel & Leisure is one of the most renowned publications in the travel industry, with a monthly circulation of nearly one million copies and a range of more than 4.8 million readers
